A criminal file in the UAE moves quickly and in a language and procedure that many residents and visitors do not expect. Police stations, public prosecution, and the criminal courts each have their own rhythm. UAEAZ advises people who have been summoned, arrested, accused, or named in a complaint — and families calling from overseas when a relative cannot speak freely.
When to call immediately
Do not wait for “the letter to arrive” if any of the following has happened:
- a police summons or travel-ban indication
- arrest, detention, or a request to attend for “clarification”
- a bounced cheque, alleged fraud, or cybercrime complaint
- a workplace accusation that may be sent to police
- a family or neighbour dispute that has been recorded as a criminal complaint
Time spent without counsel is often time spent giving a statement that is later difficult to contextualise. If you have already attended, bring what you signed, what you were told, and any case number.
Matters we see
Instructions commonly include:
- fraud, breach of trust and financial offences
- theft and property offences
- assault and offences against the person
- defamation, insult and cybercrime
- drug-related offences
- traffic and alcohol-related offences
- workplace complaints that have been sent to police
Each file is assessed on the allegation, the evidence and the procedural stage — investigation, prosecution or trial — not on a generic defence script.
Investigations and prosecution
We advise on how the investigation is likely to proceed, what documents matter, and when a matter may be conciliated, filed, or referred. Where court advocacy is required, licensed advocates conduct the appearance. The rest of the file — evidence, translations, character material, and coordination with family or employers — is prepared with the same care.
Bail, travel and reputation
Clients often care as much about movement and employment as about the charge itself. We discuss bail, travel documents, and what can and cannot be said to an employer or sponsor while the file is open. Where a criminal matter is linked to deportation or an administrative measure, that is said early. Discretion is not optional in this work.
